Gaud is a music and arts project from New England that uses sound and storytelling to explore the human social ecosystem. Finding fairytales in the study of change over time, and remaining “joyful even when all the facts have been considered.”
When the mill burnt down
It was quiet in the town
No churning of cogs in the soundscape
And the people talked in whispers
And mourned their mums and sisters
Who were caught in the
Smokey great halls
And tangled in the rubble
That crumbled to the stream
And washed away
The stream that
Powers nothing now
But still firm and frothing
Goes along on its merry way
Constantly climbing the coast
There’s a line in the sand
That grows shorter with time
As the tides of the toiling
River do climb
And a snake skin belt
Under the shirt of the prime
Minister will ensure
That his trousers stay high
And the world goes on
There’s a laminar stream
That flows down from up high
Where the crows never go
Cause it’s cold in the sky
And down on the ground
Where the bloods still warm
There’s a line in the sand
Where that snake once stood
Then he went away
Oh how else can I say
These things just come and go
Like bouts of snow
Or the pouring rain
There’s a frog
In the log
Where the tides still low
When it rains
They all climb
Right up to the road
No one knows why
They get spread
Cross the street
By the cars
As they enter the turnpike
Oh but those who know
Better, stay in the log
Where it’s comfy and kind
Safe with their families
